Desk Make Over

Hello Dear Readers
Remember my Chair make over? If not check it out here, it got another makeover lol, along with this beautiful desk that I found on Craigslist for $15 what a steal! I was so excited to redo it, I already had it all planned out, I was inspired by  www.Pickandpainted.blogspot.com she has a lot of furniture makeover projects. Check her out

I started by taping the top of the table, I wanted it to be a dark wood color, while the rest of the table would be a white color. I applied about 4-5 coats of white paint, this was the easy part.

I thought staining the top would be easy peasy, and if you follow my Instagram, you would think I got this done pretty easily as well. That was not the case at all, I did end up staning it really dark which is what I wanted, and it looked pretty and shiny, I thought it was just a matter of waiting for the stain to dry, so I waited and waited and waited, 2-3 days and it was still not dry, it was left with a tacky feeling to it, so I had to do research in retrospect I probably should have done that before I started lol, anyways hindsight is always 20/20. Of course hubby had to come to the rescue as always, and help me fix it. I ended up having to remove ALL the stain that had been on there for 3 days, sand it down, and stain it again. This way the more correct way lol, which still ended up taking 2 days because I wanted it really dark, it still didn't get as dark as I had planned, but I'm really satisfied with the turn out. we also got some polyurethane clear gloss finish to give it a nice shiny look. And after all that I was finally done and able to use my desk.

Let me know what you think guys...

Apartment Living

Hello my dear readers,

I think for most people apartment living is something they consider temporarily, not really embracing it as their home. I’ve been guilty of that myself, thinking “what’s the point we will move anyway”. Whenever I had a design idea I would put it off. I would like to change that way of thinking and actually see our apartments as our permanent home, as if we were to never move. Even if we do move in the future, I’ll cross that bridge later, for now this is our home and I’m determined to make it so. I like for our home to be as pleasant and comfortably as possible after all this is where I spend most of my time. I love watching home tours on other peoples blogs, and most of them live in houses so they do big renovations and changes, which of course I won’t be able to do because of the rules of our complex. Some apartments won’t even let you paint. But that’s okay, there are many other things you can do to give your apartment a makeover. Besides most apartments come with neutral colors, so you can really play around with your decor ideas, to match your own color scheme. So I went to my favorite inspiration guide for help, Pintrest, you can check out my Pintrest here. I also don’t want to spend a fortune, so I’ll be doing a lot of DIY’s projects, which makes it even better for me. My design inspiration comes from my husband always pretending that we live on the beach, we’re blessed to have one of the best locations for our apartment, the sun shines right into our living room, so we always get to see the sunrise in the morning, and enjoy the moonlight at night. Another reason why this will be exciting is the fact that I’ll be blending a l]ot of my husband’s stuff and my stuff together, things we each had separately before we got married. Anywho, let me share with you guys my picture inspiration for our living room, and of course when I actually finish our living room makeover I’ll show you guys the end results with before and after pics.

I love the idea of blending pillow patterns. I'll buy some fabric and sew pillow covers for my current pillows.

I have a big ottoman right now, and while it's nice to put your feet on, it doesn't really work for placing your cup of tea. I plan to replace our ottoman with a small coffee table preferably white or distressed white.

I don't know about having a shelf, but I like the decor colors, we have a lot of books, so maybe a bookcase or two instead, mixed with some of these decorating ideas.

We have an ugly looking grey trunk right now, we use it to store shoes in, I think with a bit of fixing and hand paint, I could make it look like this.  Then I would use it to store our prayer rugs instead.

I love this color for curtains

A neutral colored rug, would tie everything together, I love the pattern in this one, but there are many styles that could go well with the overall idea, as long as the color is neutral.

Let me know what you think of my ideas, do you have any suggestions?

Happiness

Happiness is not just a feeling.  it's a choice we make. To be or not to be.

Often times people will say "Do whatever makes you happy" Or "As long as that makes you happy", Well you're the only one who can choose to be happy or not to be happy, not things or other people. We might find pleasure in things or people, but ultimately we choose how they make us feel. It's important to know that, so we don't become self-destructive over what other people or things do. If someone hurts your feelings, know that they are without happiness, because a happy person does not feel the need to hurt others feelings. Brush it off, and don't let it bring you down, have your moment and move on. If you lost your job, don't be sad. Know that it was for a reason, you won't gain anything from sadness and despair. Move on to the next chapter. We're all travelers in this life and some things have to come to an end, maybe it's a job, maybe it’s a relationship, maybe it's a life. Know that the only thing that we will carry with us to the next life is our soul, so nurture it and don't destruct it with bad emotions and heedlessness.

This is very hard to think about in moments when were frustrated upset or stressed out, and that's okay because those emotions have their place and time as well. The most important part is understanding, that you are in charge of your happiness. Not blaming it on anything or anyone else. Know that we are in control of our own emotions. And that things happen to everyone of us, it's how you deal with your circumstances that matters.

Also know that you can be happy and upset at the same time. Sometimes we have to feel what we need to feel at the moment, we can't ignore that, but don't let it be your state of being.

Make intentions every day to choose happiness, and you will find yourself happy. We have so many things to be grateful for, what is there not to be happy about.

Sincerely Saida
